We are delighted to report that, after an unannounced inspection on the 22nd March 2022, CQC have concluded that The Maples Care Home is rated ‘Good’ providing a safe and well led environment for its residents. This follows on from an equally successful report in 2019.
Inspectors observed that the staff were knowledgeable about risk management; ‘throughout our visit we saw staff responding to the needs of the people there in a timely manner. They were knowledgeable about the risks to the residents they supported and how they could keep them safe from harm’.
Protocols had been drawn up to consider a residents’ preference as to how and where they would like to have their medicines administered.
The Maples was ‘consistently managed and well-led. Leaders and the culture they created promoted high quality, person-centred care. There was a strong, positive person-centred culture in the home. Each resident was treated as an individual with their own unique needs. Residents were involved in decisions about their care and support and, where appropriate, families and healthcare professionals also had an input.’
They noted that staff in all positions were given the opportunity to be involved in, and influence, the running of the home. ‘I know if I had any ideas about someone’s care needs, I could approach the management and I would be listened to’.
Inspectors concluded that protocols were in place ‘making sure infection outbreaks can be effectively prevented and controlled.’
What next for The Maples? As we move away from the crisis that is COVID-19, we will work hard to be ‘outstanding’ by the next inspection.
